8/17/11 - I usually like playing Orcs or Chaos, but the last few games I've played Empire to change it up. My wife usually plays Empire and more recently Dwarves and we have funny names for some of them like "Tough Cookie", "Chubs", "Meatbag", etc. So tonight we played Empire versus Dwarves, a combo that frequently results in longer games with many cards played.

Losing the top card to developments every turn is pretty costly to my deck and I wasn't even taking advantage of it. I had moved several of her powerful units from her battlefield to her quest zone (and had no intention of ever attacking that zone), which was milling her deck fast, so she tried to keep up with tons of support units in her kindgom. Ultimately she ended up killing off some of her units in that zone everytime I killed one of her dwarven units, otherwise she would have run out her deck and lost.

After playing a development into each of my zones I almost pulled off killing all units in her quest zone but she put a development in it at the last minute. Later I moved 2 of my kingdom developments into my battlefield to buff my battlefield, but I should have moved her 2 kindgom developments into a different zone and then played the card to wipe out all of her support cards there (which we making my unit plays very costly and healing her capital each turn). That mistake probably cost me the game as it came down to the wire.
